Portland Trail Blazers point man Damian Lillard condemned Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger for the mistimed criticism of Buddy Hield's shot selection, as it likely cost them a potential win against the Golden State Warriors.

Down six with 20 seconds left, Hield's rather-shy scoring night turned up at the right time, as he corked a long 32-foot jump shot over the extended arm of Kevin Durant, a step away from the logo — splashing home a 3-pointer to bring the Kings within three points of their Western Conference rivals.

The shot forced a Steve Kerr timeout and Joerger didn't hesitate to chide Hield for his shot selection down the stretch. Hield had been 0-for-6 from deep prior to that make.

After a pair of made free throws from Stephen Curry, Hield struck again with a trifecta from the right corner, cutting the deficit to two — and he would get the chance to seal the game after a pair of Andre Iguodala misses from the stripe.

But when it came time to deliver, Hield second-guessed himself after having the opportunity from that same near-logo spot, instead dribbling into traffic and airballing a turnaround foul-line jumper.

Lillard was irate. Not at Hield, but at Joerger for making his leading scorer second-guess his shot selection, instead settling for a heavily-contested shot over one of the Warriors' best defenders in Klay Thompson.

Hield has made plenty of strides in his game, one of them being his 3-point prowess, now ranking sixth in the league with a 44.6 percent clip from beyond the arc. He's also developed into a reliable 20-point scorer, something Joerger failed to grasp down the stretch.

The Kings were swept in their season series against the Warriors, losing all four of their matchups against the defending champs — but none of the games exceeded a five-point differential, making this a rather interesting tilt to look out for if the Kings land the eighth and last playoff spot in the West.
