The Baddest Man on the Planet has returned to boxing. “Iron” Mike Tyson will make his return to the ring in a blockbuster eight-round fight against Roy Jones Jr., according to Kevin Iole of Stadium. The bout has been agreed upon though no date has been set yet.

Tyson, once the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title, fought to recapture it at age 35, losing to Lennox Lewis by way of knockout and ending his dream to hold the belt once again.

The longtime pro retired from professional boxing in 2006 after knockout losses in consecutive matches against journeymen Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.

It's been 14 years since Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KO) has put on his XXL gloves and entered the ring, but this exhibition against Jones Jr. is no accident. The Hall of Famer has looked to be in the best shape since retiring.

Now the 54-year-old will face another legend of the sport, one that is three years younger and has seen the ropes as recently as two years ago.

Roy Jones (66-9, 47 KO) had no shortage of interested parties, as the likes of Evander Holyfield, James Toney, Riddick Bowe, and Shannon Briggs were willing to sign on the dotted line. Naturally, the prospect of fighting a boxer of mythical stature like Tyson was the most appealing.

“Yes, it's true – Mike is a legend. It would be crazy to receive an offer to enter the ring with him and refuse,” Jones told sports.ru.

“I had no intention of going back and fighting again but, for the sake of Mike Tyson, I agree to make an exception. For me, this is an opportunity that I cannot refuse. Of all those who wanted to go into the ring with him, he chose me. And since he did that, how can I say no?”

It seems fans will get their wish with these two heavyweight icons facing up against one another sometime in the near future.

The fight, though without any ranking implications, is expected to draw plenty of attention in and out of the boxing community, as a dream matchup is soon to be underway between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
