Brandon Ingram hasn't played an NBA game yet but he's already getting the attention of some of the best players in the league.

Kevin Durant gave Ingram the ultimate compliment earlier this week. The comments that stirred a reaction from Gregg Popovich, who called KD's words “unfair.”

Ingram was asked about what Durant said this week.

From The Vertical's Chris Mannix:

“It’s a very special comparison,” Ingram said. “But, of course, I know I’m not him. I know I’m not him yet, but I have the potential to make my own brand.”

NBA players, and professional athletes in general, are all about building a brand these days. Ingram already has a huge advantage when it comes to that. He's going to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are still one of the most valued franchises in all of sports despite falling on hard times when it comes to winning recently. Just being in L.A. will be enough for Ingram to be in the spotlight as much as he wants.

Ingram comes off as a quiet personality and he has a ways to go before he's a star, but the Durant comparison may be enough for him to work with in starting to build his brand.

Ingram was one of five lottery picks this year to sign with adidas. It's only a matter of time before we'll start seeing him in commercials. At that point, we'll really start seeing if he's got what it takes to build the next big brand in the NBA.
