Game 1 of the three-game National League Wild Card matchup between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds was aptly hyped as a pitcher's duel between Max Fried and Trevor Bauer.

However, that pitcher's duel went into extra innings, exhausting both teams' bullpens.

Braves star first baseman Freddie Freeman ended what became a 13-inning affair in Atlanta with a game-winning RBI single to capture the first game of the three-game series (via Braves on Twitter).

Despite contracting COVID-19 earlier in the year, Freeman had a terrific season for the Braves, and he could win NL MVP honors. After healing up, Freeman's batting average was .341 with a .462 on-base percentage and .640 slugging percentage, leading the league in runs and doubles at 51 and 23, respectively.

A four-time All-Star, Freeman drove home pinch-runner Cristian Pache from third base in an excruciating affair that was anxiety-ridden for anybody with rooting interest between the two baseball clubs.

Game 2 is set for tomorrow, again in Atlanta, with right-hander Ian Anderson taking the mound against Reds right-hander Luis Castillo.
