Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Milwaukee Brewers are currently leading the NL Central and have the third best record in the National League with 42 wins. They've had some of the most potent batting throughout the season and their pitching staff has followed with a solid year so far. The Brewers rank third in the MLB in on-base percentage (.330) and their pitching staff ranks eighth league-wide in ERA (3.72). They also come into this series following three-straight 2-1 series wins, so they stand a chance to even further improve their stock as the season rolls on. They're likely to send Tobias Myers (RHP) to the mound for this one.

Tobias Myers has been a great option for this Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff and their team has seen wins in his last three consecutive starts. He's collected 13 strikeouts through 18.1 innings in his last three starts, including an eight inning shutout against the Detroit Tigers less than two weeks ago. He certainly has the edge in this current matchup and he'll be the reason for them being favored on the betting lines. Both Willy Adames and William Contreras have been stellar from the batter's box and they'll be looking to continue their recent success during this series. The Brewers have a winning record on the road at 20-17 on the season.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Los Angeles Angels have had a tougher go of things and currently sit in fourth-place in the AL West with a 28-43 record. They've split their last 10 games at 5-5 and have actually been better on the road than at home this season, where they hold just an 11-23 record. Still, their home and away splits are nearly identical with their batting and they're hitting for a .240 average no matter where they play. Their lineup has had a terrible time this season against left-handed pitchers, so they'll be happy to see a righty on the mound for the Brewers. On their own side, they'll put their own Griffin Canning (RHP) on the mound looking to steal a win as the underdogs.

Griffin Canning has struggled through his last three starts and has yet to see a win in the month of June. Still, he's been under his average ERA through the month and this would be the time to grab a win at home, where he's been slightly better than on the road. Canning also does his best work against right-handed batters and he should see a righty-heavy lineup against the Brewers in this one. If he's able to sustain his control through the first few innings and not let the Brewers jump out to an early lead, he should have enough in the tank to help his team get the win.

Final Brewers-Angels Prediction & Pick

These two teams are currently heading in different directions and while the Angels will be in rebuilding mode following the exit of Shohei Ohtani, the Brewers have a team that is built to win right now. Depending on the result of their first game in this series, I still think the Brewers are the much better team here with their batting and pitching. Tobias Myers has been a bit more consistent than Griffin Canning and the Brewers have been thriving on the road.

If Milwaukee can force the Angels to dip into their bullpen early, they should be able to take this game without any issues. Still, Milwaukee's last few games have been close down the stretch and they're hoping for another shutout performance from Tobias Myers. For our prediction, let's roll with the favored Milwaukee Brewers to take this game on the road.
