The Cleveland Browns made the decision on Friday afternoon to release quarterback Brock Osweiler after acquiring him a few months earlier this offseason.

It didn't take long for Osweiler to find his next landing spot as Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that he has signed a deal to return to the Denver Broncos.

Osweiler is expected to take up the backup role behind Trevor Simian with second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch out with a shoulder sprain that should keep him out for at least the next five weeks.

He has much familiarity with the Broncos having spent the first four years of his career with the team before signing with the Houston Texans last offseason. However, things quickly went down hill in his lone campaign with the Texans as his inconsistent play on the field led to the team trading him to the Browns back in March.

Osweiler then fell out of favor with the Browns as head coach Hue Jackson elected to go with rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer as the starter for this upcoming season earlier this week.

The 26-year-old had played a significant role in the Broncos' championship run in the 2015 season as he filled as the starter for Peyton Manning as he was recovering from a foot injury finishing with 1,967 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in eight games played.
