The last time that the Denver Broncos won the AFC West, they also celebrated a Super Bowl 50 win later in the season. Now, with quarterback Russell Wilson in the fold, wide receiver Courtland Sutton sees that the Broncos have what it takes to snap their division win drought.

Sutton took some time to speak on the NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access” show on Thursday, where he touched on Denver’s AFC West odds following the acquisition of the longtime Seattle Seahawks quarterback.

“We haven't been able to handle the [AFC] West as we should and as we would like to,” Sutton said. “Getting Russ is definitely going to put us in that spot that we want to be in.”

While the Broncos project to be AFC West contenders in the upcoming 2022 campaign, there is nothing that is a sure guarantee in the NFL. Sutton believes it is now on the wide receiver corps to go on and help the team reach its overall potential.

“It's on us to go out there and put that work together,” Sutton said. “All these things sound really good, on paper. But it's on us to go put this work in, all the way from now to the beginning of the season to be able to put ourselves in that spot to be able to say we are the best in the west.

“It's not just gonna be something that's given to us because we picked up Russ. It's on us, all of us, to put that work together and take it to that next level, max out that potential.”

At the least for the Broncos, they will not be facing any notable dilemma regarding their wide receiver unit in the upcoming free agency period, especially as Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick are all under contract for the 2022 season. Still, Broncos general manager George Paton may be on the lookout for a replacement for tight end Noah Fant and possibly one for veteran running back and soon-to-be free agent Melvin Gordon.

The Broncos may very well be quite busy in free agency next week, as they could have an eye on once again bolstering the roster in anticipation of battling it out with their trio of rivals in the division next season.
