The Denver Broncos quarterback competition between Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater is heating up after a single preseason game. Well, by that we actually mean that Vic Fangio sees absolutely no needles moved thanks to both playing well in their opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.

“I don’t think any separation happened today,” Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said, via Andrew Mason of DNVR Sports.

Drew Lock, against Minnesota's better set of defensive players, looked pretty good. He connected with KJ Hamler (a stud!) for an 80-yard touchdown. He also led Denver down the field — 85 yards in total — for another score via his arm. He was pretty accurate, his biggest weakness, and appeared comfortable in the pocket.

Thing is, Teddy Bridgewater also looked good! While he played against the “worse” version of Minnesota's defense, he did go 7-of-8 for 74 yards and a touchdown. He is slated to started the second preseason game for Denver, allowing Vic Fangio to see him with the starters and against a better grouping of defensive players (in theory, at least).

For what it's worth, all the gunslingers the Denver Broncos passed up on in the 2021 NFL Draft, most notably Justin Fields, played well in their limited NFL preseason debuts. Nonetheless, Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater will need to continue to battle it out.
