While the Denver Broncos‘ season has come to an end, there's definitely some optimism going around in terms of the franchise's future. After turning in a subpar second season, Drew Lock appears prepared to take the next step in leading the Broncos to the next level.

“Without a doubt, I feel I can be the guy here and will be the guy,” Lock said, via video from Troy Renck of KMGH. “That's always a weird question to answer because I know, personally in my head and the way I feel, without a doubt. How comfortable I got with this offense toward the end of the year, and the guys around me — you want to be the guy here.

To Lock's credit, he was able to slightly turn the dial towards the latter part of the season, but it didn't matter given the many struggles the Broncos' endured overall. The 24-year old threw 15 interceptions this season, giving him a 49.2 percent quarterback rating.

His claim to being “the guy” in Denver is definitely a bold claim, seeing as how he struggled to complete more than 65 percent of his passes at any point this season. The fact that he threw one less interception (15) than he did touchdowns (16) means that Lock has a lot of work to do if he plans on being the cornerstone for the Broncos.

“Everybody wants to be the guy here with all these young guys we’ve got running around,” Lock continued. “I'm excited to give everything I can in this offseason to still be the guy going into next year, but I do believe I am.”

The next step for the Broncos will be looking to see what they do with their ninth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
