At the forefront of the Denver Broncos' offseason to-do list lies sorting out their quarterback situation that is expected to be addressed through NFL free agency. Among those potential top targets will be former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, who will likely be a highly sought out player on the open market.

This has stirred up plenty of conversation surrounding Denver being one of the serious suitors to pursue him next month. According to Mike Klis of 9news.com, Broncos general manager John Elway are expected met up with Mike McCartney, who is currently the agent that represents both Cousins and their current quarterback Trevor Siemian, at the NFL Scouting Combine later this week.

The Denver Broncos have a meeting scheduled with Mike McCartney — the agent who represents quarterbacks Kirk Cousins, Trevor Siemian and Senior Bowl MVP Kyle Lauletta — in Indianapolis this week, 9NEWS has learned.

According to NFL rules, McCartney and Broncos’ general manager John Elway can talk about Siemian and Lauletta all they want. Siemian is expected to be trade bait in the coming weeks

Another intriguing aspect concerning this situation is that the tampering rules that prevent either Elway and McCartney can discuss Cousins by any means. This could lead to the league to get involved to make sure the topic is avoided in the meeting. Although this pure speculation at this point, it could be difficult for both sides to truly navigate around it.

At the same time, this should provide a clearer picture in regards to where Siemian stands with the franchise next season and beyond. He has struggled to excel in the starting role that came to a head in 2017 where he recorded 2,285 passing yards with 12 touchdowns to 14 interceptions, four fumbles, and a 73.3 passer rating. Siemian has one more year left on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie deal that is worth $1.9 million.

This upcoming meeting should give both sides the clarity necessary to determine what the Broncos plan to do this upcoming offseason to address their quarterback situation.
