Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have keyed in a few areas of needed improvement along their roster. The front office has stockpiled several draft picks in the middle rounds to be in the position to address those concerns.
Among those spots on the roster is at running back that became clear after the decision to part ways with C.J. Anderson this offseason. According to Kyle Frederickson of the Denver Post, general manager John Elway has voiced confidence that the team will be able to snag help at that position through the upcoming draft.
“It’s hard to predict where they’re going to end up, but it is a deep class,” Elway said. “We feel good about the fact that we’ll be able to get a good one.”
This year's crop of talent at running back has been widely touted as being one of the deepest that there has been in the last several years. Beyond the likes of Penn State's Saquon Barkley, there are a few other promising talents such as LSU's Derrius Guice, Georgia's Nick Chubb and Sonny Michel, USC's Ronald Jones, and San Diego State's Rashaad Penny to name a few.
Each of these running backs has the chance to be potential game changers in the running game at the next level. Aside from holding the fifth overall pick in this year's draft, the Broncos also have the 40th overall pick in the second round along with a pair of selections in each the third, fourth, and fifth round separately. This should present them plenty of opportunity to either package picks to move up to snag a running back that they are eying as well as stay at any of those spots to take one.
There may be some uncertainty surrounding what Denver will do at the fifth overall spot, but it is clear that the franchise will make it a point to add a promising talent to their backfield.
