There's no question that Justin Simmons is one of the best safeties in the NFL. According to CBS analyst Bryant McFadden, the Denver Broncos star is basically the Damian Lillard of the league.

“When I think about Justin Simmons, guys, he’s like the Damian Lillard of the NFL,” McFadden said on CBS Sports last week. “He’s so underappreciated. He didn’t come into the league with a big name like some of his peers but he’s done nothing but ball out, especially the last few years.”

The comparison is quite accurate given that these two have been low-key dominating in their respective sports. The 26-year old Just in Simmons had himself quite a season last year as he totaled 85 tackles, 15 pass breakups and four pass interceptions. While Lillard, who plays for the Portland Trailblazers in the NBA, has been wreaking havoc as the team's main weapon.

McFadden was responding to CBS' Top 10 Safety List for 2020, which had the Broncos star at the sixth spot. Which, per the analyst, was a complete fumble in terms of rankings since Justin Simmons deserved to be a few notches higher in his opinion.

“When you turn on the tape or look at the numbers, he’s a big-time baller.” McFadden explained.

After breaking out ans proving his worth last season, Justin Simmons was rated as the highest-graded safety in the NFL with a grade of 90.8 (per Pro Football Focus). He was also selected in the All-Pro Second Team for the first time in his young, four-year career in the league.

Justin Simmons' camp and his team still have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term extension with the Broncos. If a deal isn't inked within a week's time, the safety would have to play on a one-year franchise tag for Denver before becoming a free agent come 2021.
