The Denver Broncos are set to take on the New York Jets on Thursday night and they'll likely be without one of their running backs. According to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Phillip Lindsay is not expected to make his return on Thursday Night Football versus the Jets.

Phillip Lindsay would sustain a toe injury in Denver's season-opening game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. After undergoing tests, it was discovered that Lindsay was dealing with turf toe and he was expected to miss multiple weeks.

Nonetheless, the Broncos didn't place him on short-term injured reserve, giving the former undrafted free agent a chance to return when he's able to. However, even though he was able to practice this week, Lindsay will have to wait at least another week to rejoin the offense on the field.

In his first two seasons with the Broncos, Phillip Lindsay eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in both seasons and he's combined for 16 rushing touchdowns. Despite his contributions from 2018-2019, Denver elected to sign Melvin Gordon during the offseason.

Given that, even with Lindsay involved in the offense, he is going to share the backfield duties with Gordon. Gordon has accumulated 208 yards and two touchdowns in his first three games with the Broncos this season.

When the Broncos and the Jets kick off Week 4 on Thursday Night Football, don't expect to see Lindsay in a uniform on the sideline. At the least, the versatile running back seems to be making progress and he could return in Week 5 versus the New England Patriots.
