Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken the NFL world by storm since assuming the starting role under center for the Chiefs last season, so much so that many are already claiming he could eventually dethrone Tom Brady as the greatest ever.

The Denver Broncos will get to see Mahomes for the first time this year on Thursday night, and Broncos head coach Vic Fangio loves what he has seen from the young signal-caller:

“I think he’s like John Elway was in the ’80s and ’90s,” Fangio said, according to Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' team website. “He’s that guy. Like Aaron Rodgers has been for the last 12, 14 years — however many years he’s been starting. He’s kind of that guy. He’s the great passer, the great improviser. He plays with a lot of athletic arrogance, which is a compliment. He’s very confident in his ability. He’s very poised, he doesn’t get rattled and he’s got an arm that is really, really good.”

All of that being said, Mahomes has not looked like himself over the last few weeks as he deals with an ankle injury.

The reigning MVP is coming off a shaky performance against the Houston Texans in which he threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, but also completed just 19 of his 35 passes with an interception in what ended up being a 31-24 loss.

Also, between Weeks 4 and 5, Mahomes threw just one touchdown pass, and he has failed to complete 60 percent of his passes in each of his last three games.

On the season overall, Mahomes has thrown for 2,104 yards, 14 touchdowns and one pick while completing 63.9 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 111.9.

The Chiefs have dropped two games in a row while the Broncos have won two straight.
