Phillip Lindsay was the Denver Broncos' top rusher this past season, finishing with 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging an impressive 5.4 yards per carry en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

However, it doesn't appear that Lindsay will be the Broncos' featured running back heading into 2019.

According to James Palmer of NFL Network, Royce Freeman is actually likely to get more carries than Lindsay next season.

This past year, Lindsay carried the ball 192 times while Freeman got 130 attempts, and Freeman finished with 521 yards and five scores while registering four yards per carry, certainly a bit less productive than Lindsay.

In addition, Lindsay hauled in 35 receptions for 421 yards and a touchdown while Freeman caught just 14 passes for 72 yards.

But remember: Lindsay suffered a wrist injury late in the season that ultimately required surgery, and the 24-year-old is in the middle of a long recovery period, as he has not yet been cleared to play.

Meanwhile, Freeman was originally looked at as Denver's top halfback going into 2018, as he was chosen by the Broncos in the third round (71st pick overall) of the NFL Draft last spring.

Lindsay, on the other hand, went undrafted last year, so Freeman does have a bit of an edge on him in terms of overall primacy even though Lindsay was clearly better in 2018.

The Broncos are coming off of a season in which they won just six games, marking the first time since 1972 that the franchise endured back-to-back losing campaigns, a truly remarkable feat.

Denver has now missed the playoffs three years in a row.
