Some of the biggest names that will enter free agency come the end of this season include Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose and Jrue Holiday, to name a few.

With one of the largest cap spaces available and without significant draft picks at their disposal the Brooklyn Nets will be very active in the free agent market. However they understand that they are unlikely to attract any of the aforementioned big names so they are keeping their expectations in check.

As a result they have reportedly set their sights on Detroit Pistons shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who is nearing the end of his current rookie deal.

This season the 24-year-old has established himself as arguably the most important player on the Pistons roster and the Nets have definitely taken notice.

“Both scouts and former teammates told The Post that Caldwell-Pope… has become the most important piece on a Pistons roster that features All-Star Andre Drummond, and young standouts Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris”, per Brian Lewis of New York Post. “That’s why Brooklyn is expected to make the two-way wing a top priority this summer.”

The fourth-year player boasts per game averages of 14.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.1 3-pointers.

The biggest stumbling block here is that KCP will be a restricted free agent come offseason which means that the Pistons will have the option to match whatever offer the Nets will make. However it is also worth noting that the side from the Motor City does have quite a few other players on their roster that will take up a significant portion of their cap space.

Andre Drummond will be due $23.7 million next year while Tobias Harris and Reggie Jackson will both be getting $16 million apiece. If the Nets offer Caldwell-Pope a max deal then perhaps the Pistons will be unable and unwilling to match this and opt to just let him go.
