Deshaun Watson has officially requested a trade from the Houston Texans, opening the floodgates for teams around the NFL to make offers for his services. While Riley McCormick of Fansided's Dawg Pound Daily implied that the Cleveland Browns should trade for Watson, Baker Mayfield fired back at him on Twitter.

It is undoubtedly going to take a historic trade package to land Watson via trade this offseason. If the Browns were to get involved in a trade for Watson, they'd unquestionably have to include Mayfield to get a deal done.

Besides Mayfield, Cleveland would then have to include multiple first-round picks — and likely more — to even have a chance to land Watson. Provided that, it's highly unlikely that the Browns decide to get involved in the sweepstakes for Watson this offseason.

Mayfield is coming off of a productive season in his first year under Kevin Stefanski, throwing for 3,563 yards, 26 touchdowns, and six interceptions despite not having Odell Beckham Jr. for most of the season. Along with his improved play, Mayfield has accepted the role of being the quarterback of a Browns franchise that hasn't seen much success in quite some time.

But this past season, Mayfield helped lead Cleveland to an 11-5 record in the regular season and their first playoff win since the 1994 season. That isn't to say that Watson isn't the better quarterback of the two — which he is — but given Mayfield's growth in 2020, the Browns are likely committed to him long-term.

There's no doubt that Watson would be an upgrade over most quarterbacks in the NFL, including Mayfield. However, if you're a writer in Cleveland, you're best not writing about the prospects of Watson joining the Browns this offseason. That's basic common sense for anyone covering a team which made huge strides
and would have been in position to make the AFC Championship Game had a Chad Henne 13-yard run not occurred on 3rd and 14 in the divisional playoff round against the Kansas City Chiefs.
