The Cleveland Browns managed to get back into the win column against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4. Although there were a number of factors that made this a must-win for the Browns, quarterback Baker Mayfield insists that Rex Ryan was not one of them.

Ryan blasted the former No. 1 pick for being overrated following their loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Mayfield is adamant that his criticisms played no part in the win:

Browns Baker Mayfield on if Rex Ryan fueled him: “Absolutely not. Rex Ryan does not get any credit for this week’s win”

Mayfield's comments are just the latest example of his strange decision to engage in a back-and-forth with the former New York Jets head coach. By trying to take the focus off Ryan, it has seemingly only opened the door for him to come up with more rebuttals. This was evident when he wore Browns' colors on his latest television appearance after Mayfield suggested that he no longer had any.

Regardless, it is clear he is still looking to use any criticisms he can find as motivation to get back at his doubters. Mayfield clearly takes pride in being considered the underdog since his days as a walk-on in college. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case after he was taken with the first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft while the Browns managed to shore up some serious star power on both sides of the ball.

Although Cleveland still has yet to play up to its expectations in the 2019 NFL season, their win against Baltimore could be just what they need to get on the right track.
