Odell Beckham Jr. may have expressed some trepidation about his future in Cleveland this season. But the Browns don't appear to feel the same way.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Browns want to move forward with Beckham heading into 2020. But they want more “engagement” from the wide receiver during the offseason.
That means Cleveland would prefer that Beckham be present at offseason activities. It would be an effort show that he wants to be with the team and to set an example for the younger players.
Beckham had a rocky first season in Cleveland, to say the least.
He played a full 16-game campaign for the first time since 2015, but he was not as productive as most expected. He caught 74 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns.
The 27-year-old was also rumored to have been telling opponents to come and get him via trade this coming offseason. And there were certainly a couple of moments during the year where he did not seem too happy.
Beckham was originally selected by the New York Giants with the 12th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons with the Giants. Injuries slowed him in 2017 and 2018, limiting him to just 16 games total over those two years.
New York then traded Beckham to Cleveland last March in spite of signing him to a six-year contract extension during the previous offseason.
The Browns ended up going just 6-10 in 2019, resulting in the firings of head coach Freddie Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey.
