Training camp is well underway for the Cleveland Browns, who are hoping to build off of their impressive 2023 campaign. The Browns found their way to the postseason despite suffering myriad of injuries along the way, and while the new year offers them new hope that injuries won’t plague their season again, it looks like newly signed running back D’Onta Foreman suffered a serious injury at practice on Thursday morning.

With Nick Chubb working his way back from a serious knee injury last season, the Browns brought in Foreman to provide some depth at the running back position. Foreman ended up suffering a serious neck injury at the team’s latest practice, though, and after being immobilized and taken off the field on a board, a helicopter flew in and ended up picking him up and transporting him to a hospital.

Via Mary Kay Cabot:

“Browns D’Onta Foreman injured during kickoff drill. Being immobilized and taken off on board.”

Via Daniel Oyefusi:

“Update from the Browns on RB D’Onta Foreman: ‘During practice today, Browns RB D’Onta Foreman sustained a direct blow to the head that resulted in neck pain. The Browns athletic training staff deployed their standard emergency action procedures to immobilize Foreman. He was taken to an ambulance and is being transported via helicopter to a Medical Center in Roanoke, VA to undergo further medical evaluation. Foreman has movement in all his extremities. Updates will be provided as more information is revealed.’”

Anytime a player is immobilized, that’s never a good sign, and the fact that Foreman was taken by helicopter to the hospital shows the severity of this situation. The good news is that he still has movement of his extremities, but it’s clear that the veteran running back has suffered a scary injury that has thrown his status for Cleveland very much up in the air.

Obviously, the main concern here is in regards to Foreman’s well-being first before even considering a return to the field for the Browns. Everyone is going to be keeping a close eye out for updates on status, and thankfully, it seems like the first update since his departure is a good one, as Foreman is reportedly talking and laughing despite suffering this injury.

It initially seems like Foreman avoided a truly devastating injury, but there's still going to be a lot of work for him to do before he finds his way back on the field. For the time being, there's some good news surrounding this injury for Foreman, but the Browns are surely going to keep close tabs on him over the next few days.

Later on, Mary Kay Cabot gave a positive Foreman update:

“Updated: X-rays and scans on #Browns RB D'Onta Foreman's neck are negative and he'll return to the team today after being by flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital following a scary scene at The Greenbrier.”

That certainly is encouraging news for the Browns and Foreman after the scary injury.
