It’s finally draft day, and the Cleveland Browns’ super-secret decision on which quarterback to take with the No. 1 pick will be revealed in a matter of hours.

They were apparently narrowing down their options to just two players: Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield. But as ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes, the sense around the league is that Mayfield is going to be their pick:

Browns continue to keep the decision on their No. 1 pick a secret, but there is a mounting belief from HCs and GMs around the league that Cleveland will take Baker Mayfield.

If Mayfield does go No. 1 overall to the Browns, it’ll represent quite a tremendous turn of events. After USC quarterback Sam Darnold was largely considered the favorite early in the process, he was eventually supplanted by Wyoming’s Josh Allen. But seemingly out of nowhere, Mayfield’s case to go No. 1 has suddenly picked up steam in a matter of days.

Mayfield has a big supporter in the Cleveland front office with draft consultant Scot McCloughan and may have successfully convinced general manager John Dorsey that he’s the right pick. Despite questions about his size and his overzealous personality at times, Mayfield has proven to be an accurate passer who can extend plays and is extremely confident in his abilities.

This talk of Mayfield could all turn out to be one final smokescreen ahead of the draft. But it’s gained so much steam in the last few days that it shouldn’t come as a shock if that does turn out to be their top pick later tonight.
