Rob Gronkowski reveals the “real” reason he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this spring.

In a Mother's Day tweet, Gronk playfully divulged that he only moved to Tampa Bay to be closer to his mom and grandmother who now reside in Fort Myers, Florida.

The 30-year old tight end will now be playing closer to home with the Buccaneers, which is a refreshing change for his mom Diane Gronkowski Walters given that his son played all the way in Massachusetts for almost a decade.

Coming from a year off from from the field, Gronkowski decided to come back and move to the Florida-based franchise last April.

After nine seasons with the New England Patriots and winning three Super Bowl titles, the New York native announced his retirement a month following their Super Bowl LIII victory in 2019. However, after 13 months of both physical and mental conditioning, the five-time Pro Bowler is back.

“I said it from the beginning that I wouldn’t come back to the game unless I’m feeling it, feeling healthy, and feeling ready to play. And now my fire is back.” Gronkowski posted on his Instagram upon announcing his move to the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers made huge moves this 2020 offseason. The most notable one was, of course, signing the biggest name in the NFL in Tom Brady. The quarterback played alongside Rob Gronkowski in New England from 2010 to 2018, which inevitably created a solid bond between the two.

It has been reported that Brady did everything he could to get his former teammate to join Tampa Bay.

Whatever the real reason may be, “good boy” Gronk is happy now that he is close to Tom Mom.
