The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the favorites to make a Super Bowl run this year. To do that, the team must continue playing at a high level. One player to thank for being a consistent leader for this franchise is linebacker Devin White.
White, who at just 23 years old is already considered one of the best linebackers in the league. He plays a vital role in the Buccaneers' defense. Not only does he do his job at a high level, but he holds leadership responsibilities as well. However, part of his leadership skills stems from an uncommon source.
In an article written by Dan Pompei for The Athletic, Pompei found that White uses his love for the horses he raises on his off-time as a way to become a better leader. According to Pompei, White has, “16 (horses) — his ‘children.' Among them are Bad Mama Jama, Daisy, D’Jango, Dream, Mocha, Overdrive, Poetry, Ricky Bobby, Shake It Fast, Taylor Made and Troublemaker.”
The Buccaneers superstar linebacker Devin White has taken care of horses since he was a small child. “When he was in middle school, White convinced his parents to pay $500 for his first horse, Ricky Bobby.” His first horse is still alive today, living a happy life. White claims:
“He was the horse I rode in my childhood that I learned everything on and built that special bond. That's why now he's living his best life in a pasture with a bunch of girl horses just roaming around, eatin' good. … But they all are special in their own way. They all serve different purposes.”
In just the fourth year of his career, Devin White has made an imprint on the NFL. His love for taking care of horses has allowed him to become the leader the Buccaneers need to remain at the top of the rankings. White leads Tampa Bay from the front, guiding the defense throughout the season, much in the same way he does while riding one of his horses on one of his properties.
