Bobby Portis finally found a permanent home in free agency. After struggling to find his fit to start his career, Portis landed on the Milwaukee Bucks and took off. Portis became a key part of the Bucks' rotation during their championship run in 2021, and after another solid year this past season, he was able to land a near-$49 million deal as part of the Bucks free agency plan.

Portis is clearly grateful for his fit with the Bucks, and he took time to reflect on that in an interview with Eric Nehm of The Athletic. Portis believes that everyone in Milwaukee has allowed him to be himself, and it has led him to play the best basketball of his career so far. In the process, Portis took a chance to throw some shade at the previous teams he played for:

“My first couple years in the league, obviously it's tough when you're trying to figure out what your niche is in the league, find a role, find a way to help the team and then you don't really get a chance to develop with that team. They trade you and then you go to a couple more teams where it's like not really a good situation for you and then you finally find a team where you can just be yourself.”

Portis spent time with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, and New York Knicks before finding his way to Milwaukee. And from the sounds of it, there's no love lost between Portis and his former teams.

Whatever the Bucks have done to help Portis has worked, though, as he has become an invaluable member of their team. And with his new deal set to kick in this upcoming season, it appears it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
