The Milwaukee Bucks gave Mike Budenholzer a chance to sit with their franchise star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, prior to his eventual hiring, as The Greek Freak and co-star Khris Middleton went out for a private meal with Budenholzer to chat before the Bucks put pen to paper.

During the NBA Draft Combine, Antetokounmpo explained the nature of this talk, taking place right as his second interview with the organization was imminent on Tuesday.

“How do I explain — it was not like an interview, it was not like an introduction,” Antetokounmpo told Matt Velasquez of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Thursday at the combine where his younger brother, Kostas, is among the participants. “I was aware that me and Khris were going to talk to him, but I wasn’t aware what decision we made. I just talked to him. …

“We had a private place, a private little area that we went to, me and Khris and Bud. By the way, the food was great there.”

It's also worthy to note that Antetokounmpo's companion was Middleton, not Parker — which says a lot about who the Bucks think are the two pillar players of the organization after the Bucks passed on picking up his option for next season.

“It’s exciting,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “I’d like to get the chance to talk to him again before I start working out. I would love to work out in his plan. I want to see our plays, I want to see the game plan, I want to make myself better through his game. Yeah, I think it’s going to be exciting. I can’t wait to play for him. Hopefully we can win some games.”

Only time will tell if Bud and Antetokounmpo will be the right coach-player partnership for this new era in Bucks history.
