MVP Giannis? That name only has a short shelf life, according to the most valuable player himself.

Per Malika Andrews of ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks forward addressed fans at an organized event celebrating the franchise's first MVP award since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the honor three times in four years.

“After this day, please don’t call me the MVP until I win it again next year,” Giannis Antetokounmpo told fans.

Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to the franchise's first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2001. He averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 32.8 minutes per game and 72 appearances last season, shooting 57.8% from the field, 25.6% from behind the 3-point arc, and 72.9% from the free throw line.

Milwaukee County celebrated “Giannis Antetokounmpo Day” on July 14th, commemorating Giannis' MVP 2018-19 season. The “Greek Freak,” at 24 years old, is still young and proving himself to skeptics; he's a three-time All-Star already—earning the “captain” role this past February, and former Most Improved Player.

The Bucks fell to the Toronto Raptors in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals, however. Kawhi Leonard eventually willed the Canadian franchise to the first championship in franchise history. Giannis has that particular mindset, too, eschewing the honors and titles, as he told fans on Sunday, and instead focusing on winning a championship for the franchise.
