After an under-the-radar offseason by the Milwaukee Bucks, the team still has one matter to take on: resolve the long-term future of head coach Mike Budenholzer.

Budenholzer is currently slated to coach the upcoming season on the final year of his contract deal with the Bucks. Even as rumors swirled over Milwaukee's Eastern Conference playoff push that he would be fired if the team failed to pull off a deep playoff run, he silenced such critics by leading the team to an NBA title win.

One would have presumed that Bucks general manager Jon Horst would award Budenholzer with a multiyear contract extension deal at the start of the offseason. More so, Bucks team principal owner Marc Lasry did note that the team would “deal” with Budenholzer's extension matter following the 2021 NBA Finals.

Still, this has not yet transpired.

Budenholzer already has in mind what he plans to ask Milwaukee's front office in extension talks, which he revealed to ESPN's Zach Lowe on his “The Lowe Post” podcast.

“I'd love to coach the Milwaukee Bucks for like the next 20 years, so I’m going to ask for the 20 year extension,” Budenholzer said. “That's our starting point.”

Budenholzer may have been a bit sarcastic in his response, as the odds of the Bucks offering him such a deal are slim to none. Milwaukee did just win the NBA title, but the team's front office may not consider committing to a head coach for more than a seven-year contract deal.

For now, Budenholzer surely awaits on just when contract extension talks with the Bucks front office will ramp up, whether before or during the upcoming season.
