The Chicago Bulls are facing the grim prospect of not having Lonzo Ball in the NBA Playoffs. He is reportedly done for the season after suffering another setback with his left knee injury.
Just a few weeks ago, there was optimism that Lonzo might return and help the Bulls make a deep run, especially with Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams also back in the fold. But with the latest development, even coach Billy Donovan isn't as positive about Lonzo seeing action, per the report of ESPN.
“It's disappointing from the standpoint you were hoping that the time he had off would help maybe propel him going forward to do a little bit more. But that certainly hasn't been the case.”
The 24-year-old Lonzo has not played since January 14 and his recovery has been slower than expected. Donovan admitted they would rather err on the side of caution than force the do-it-all playmaker to suit up for the Bulls, who are holding on to the no. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.
“I think the biggest thing they're trying to figure out before we can do anything is try to eliminate his discomfort and any pain that he's feeling. This period of taking some time off, letting it calm down, and trying to get him back started again, there was a hope that maybe it would help, and it probably hasn't helped as much as we would've liked to.”
The Bulls are one of the surprising squads this season and will end a four-year drought in the NBA Playoffs.
