The Chicago Bulls were one of the most active teams in the offseason in terms of bringing in some fresh faces to their squad. In spite of the influx of star power in Chicago, however, there is still no doubt that Zach LaVine still remains to be their cornerstone superstar. As such, the All-Star guard is reportedly set to earn himself a very handsome contract extension in the near future.

According to Bulls team insider KC Johnson, the contract negotiations between LaVine and the Bulls appear to be heading towards the right direction:

“I’d say every indication I’ve been given both internally from his side and the organization is this is a match made to move forward together,” Johnson said on a recent appearance on the HoopsHype podcast with Michael Scotto. “I don’t think you expend the draft capital this regime has doled out in the Vucevic trade and the DeRozan acquisition without doing everything in your power to appease your No. 1 player and to try and win now.”

As indicated above, all that the Bulls did throughout the summer (and even before that when they traded for Nikola Vucevic) was geared towards keeping LaVine in Chicago. The organization knows how important the 26-year-old is to their team, and they appear to be willing to pay the price for his services.

Johnson also noted in the podcast that with how things are shaking up in the NBA right now, LaVine, who himself is currently dealing with a thumb injury, could be in line for an All-NBA spot this season. If this happens, then the 6-foot-5 guard will be eligible for a supermax extension in the summer. Will the Bulls be willing to dig this deep into their pockets for Zach LaVine? Well, right now, all signs are pointing to the fact that they are.
