Though the Philadelphia 76ers are seen as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, they were defeated in the final seconds of regulation by a heroic effort from the Chicago BullsZach LaVine.

LaVine’s lightning-quick first step was too much for Mike Scott, Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons to handle, as the Bulls guard was able to knife his way into the lane, double-pump to avoid the block and toss in a layup to give the Bulls a one-point lead with .5 seconds left on the clock.

Of course, things got a little bizarre after that, with the Sixers not being able to convert on an opportunity to win it.

Though the early portion of the season was rife with horror stories about Bulls head coach Jim Boylen’s coaching practices, the team seems to actually be responding to Boylen’s seemingly antiquated methods.

Chicago has been surprisingly feisty of late and are up to a 19-47 record on the season, which means Boylen’s Bulls have gone a solid 8-7 over their past 15 games.

Much of that success has come on the back of LaVine, who dropped a career-high 47 points in the quadruple-overtime duel with the Atlanta Hawks, and in this game, LaVine poured in 39 points to lead all scorers.

The 76ers, who were without All-Star Joel Embiid as well as the lovable and talented Boban Marjanovic started Amir Johnson, who allowed the Bulls’ Robin Lopez to log 19 points and 9 rebounds in 37 minutes.

But really, this game was all about LaVine’s late heroics, which should give Bulls fans plenty to crow about when discussing the team’s young core.
