Chile and Canada will likely be playing to advance to the knockout stage in this game as long as Argentina beats Peru. Canada is second in the group with three points, while Chile sits tied with Peru with one point. Canada can’t guarantee advancement with a draw, but Peru would have to beat Argentina and better Canada on goal differential to knock them out. It is time to continue our Copa America odds series with a Canada-Chile prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Canada had one of their biggest wins in soccer history when they defeated Peru. They used a 74th-minute Jonathan David strike to take a 1-0 lead against ten-man Peru, and held on to put themselves in a position to advance to the knockout stage. The scenario is simple for Canada, beat Chile and they’ll be in the playoff. Maxime Crepeau stole the show for Canada, making numerous outstanding saves to hold off Peru. It was the first win for Jesse Marsch since taking over the managerial duties for Canada in May.

Chile held on for as long as they could against Argentina, and they almost stole a draw. Lautaro Martinez scored the game-sealing goal in the 88th minute. It wasn’t a perfect game for Chile, as they allowed 21 shots. Chile hasn’t scored a goal yet in this tournament, which will be a problem against Canada and Crepeau.

Why Canada Will Win

Canada’s offense will need to turn up the pressure if they are going to win this game. Jacob Shaffelburg came into the game at half-time and made an immediate impact, eventually assisting on Jonathan David’s go-ahead goal.

Alphonso Davies hasn’t made an impact in this tournament yet, and you can expect him to be a factor if Canada makes the knockout stage. David and Davies were the keys for Canada this entire tournament. David has already made his impact, and now it’s time for Davies to finish the job.

Why Chile Will Win

Canada’s performance against Peru wasn’t that convincing, considering they were out-chanced 9-5 and out-possessed despite Peru playing with ten men for the last 30 minutes. Canada may get complacent in this game since they only need a draw to advance to the group stage, which could allow Chile to secure a goal late and steal the win.

The issue with betting Chile is that they only had three shot attempts against Argentina, while Argentina was pressing to score a goal. Chile can’t sit back and accept a draw here, and they’ll need to be the ones with pressure, but if Canada parks the bus and plays for a draw, it’ll be hard for Chile to break through.

The games playing at the same time is a smart move. Canada won’t know the result of the Argentina game, which could stop them from playing for the draw.

Final Canada-Chile Prediction & Pick

The prospect of Canada getting to the knockout stage will be front of mind. Canada isn’t going to risk losing this game and knocking themselves out, which makes it likely they play for at least a draw, and hope Argentina does them a favor. If Canada were the favorites, they’d be the bet, but since they are the clear underdogs, the draw will be what they play for.
