Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle La'el Collins was not at practice Thursday after being involved in what Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network describes as a “major crash.” Collins appears to have escaped unscathed, as Michael Gehlkin of the Dallas Morning News reports that the lineman is “OK.”

Collins' accident was not the only cause for concern along the Dallas offensive front Thursday as left tackle Tyron Smith departed from the practice field with an ailment, only to report back as being “fine” later in the day.

Collins has established himself as a stalwart at the right tackle spot, having started 47 games there over the past three seasons. Dallas rewarded his play with a five-year contract extension prior to last season, an indication that they have plans of him locking down the position for a while.

There has been no immediate update on how long the accident will keep Collins sidelined, but so long as he avoided any significant injuries, his absence shouldn't be a long-term one. As for Smith, the downplayed nature of his departure is an indicator that Dallas won't have much to worry about it pertains to getting him back on the field.

With there being no preseason games this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, neither Collins nor Smith is in line of missing any contests in the short term. The Cowboys open their season Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Rams on “Sunday Night Football,” hoping to have their full allotment of offensive linemen when they take the field.
