The Arizona Cardinals may very well be seeing the start of the Blaine Gabbert era in the desert. With Carson Palmer on the injured reserve list due to an arm injury, Drew Stanton and Gabbert have shared duties as the team’s starting quarterback, but it seems that Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is more fond of the idea of Gabbert starting under center in 2018 for Arizona should Palmer decide to hang up his cleats, per Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com.

This sounds like further job security for Gabbert, whose one-year deal with the Cardinals expires at the end of the season. Prior to hooking up with Arizona, Gabbert has played three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and another three with the San Francisco 49ers.

Gabbert has seemingly impressed Arians in the two starts he’s had so far this season. Against his former team on Sunday, Gabbert completed 22 of 38 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns, as well as an interception, in a 27-24 win over the Jaguars.

A first-round pick by Jacksonville in the 2011 NFL Draft, the 28-year-old Gabbert has 7,849 career passing yards to go with 43 touchdowns. Gabbert will be put on the acid test once again next week against the surging Los Angeles Rams at home.
