The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Philadelphia Phillies. Our MLB odds series has our Cardinals Phillies prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Cardinals Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies have seemingly found the secret sauce this year. They have arrived at the magic formula where a team simply fits brilliantly together. Everyone not only gets along great in the clubhouse, but performs his role when called upon with great consistency. The Phillies are getting 26 guys to produce in various ways at the right moments. They're getting contributions from everyone and aren't significantly lacking in any one area. Whereas the Atlanta Braves are struggling to hit and the Los Angeles Dodgers have a noticeably weak bottom half of the batting order, the Phillies don't have those weaknesses, at least not right now. The Phillies have been so dominant in the course of going 41-18 in their first 59 games that they won 15 straight series before finally losing a series in Colorado a week ago versus the Rockies. People have said, and it's true, that the Phillies haven't beaten teams with winning records, but that's part of the point. Very few National League teams have winning records to begin with. Winning games is the whole point, and Philadelphia is one of the few in the National League which is regularly banking wins. It is not easy to win baseball games with great regularity. The test of the regular season is to handle one plane flight after another, one series after another, and win that series. Teams that have great regular seasons average two out of three wins. Any team which averages two out of three wins over a full 162-game schedule will go 108-54, which is an elite level of performance. The Phillies are on track to hit that 108-win mark, so they're basically doing everything they need to. They're doing things the right way with great regularity. It's really hard to find a glaring flaw with this group.

Keep in mind that every baseball team will have a bad week or two in the season, such as what the Phillies endured in Colorado and San Francisco this past week. It's not as though the Phillies were somehow exposed, however. They have a great batting order, and great hitters aren't always going to hit well. If they stopped hitting for a full month, then that would be a different conversation, but the Phillies have not been vulnerable to the prolonged lulls and funks we saw in the 2022 and 2023 seasons before Philadelphia came on strong in June and thereafter. This team looks like the best in baseball, even better than the New York Yankees. The prospect of a Phillies-Yankees World Series looks very appealing right now.

Why The Cardinals Could Cover The Spread

The Cardinals had been playing really, really well before running into the Phillies. This team looks more like the team everyone expected to see before the season. St. Louis can certainly grab one game this weekend in Philly.

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread

The Phillies have won 20 of 22 at home. They are a wrecking ball in their own ballpark. What else is there to say at this point?
