He admitted that his main goal at the time was to earn enough money to buy a house. He had been set to join another TV series starring Janeane Garofalo but had a fortuitous encounter with a TV executive who mentioned plans for an American version of The Office. Wilson, who had admired the original British series, immediately felt a strong desire to be a part of it. When the other pilot fell through, he seized the opportunity to audition for The Office and ultimately landed the role that would define his career.
