On the afternoon of legendary small forward Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony, the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers had some early fireworks on Sunday. With Pierce's iconic No. 34 jersey set to be retired to the rafters at TD Garden amongst many other great names, Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving got everyone in the building on their feet when he put the moves on Cavs star forward LeBron James for a score in the first quarter.

With the Celtics up 6-5 early over the Cavs, James defended Irving one-on-one. After Irving drove to the basket, he immediately stopped and dribbled the ball behind his back and caught James off guard. The point guard then promptly drilled a step back jumper, which sent the TD Garden crowd and Celtics bench into a crazed frenzy.

A video of the exciting play, which was immediately posted on Twitter to the official Yahoo Sports NBA account, can be viewed below in all of its glory.

This is a huge game for both the Celtics and the Cavaliers, as Boston has been struggling offensively as of late and Cleveland just had a major shakeup in their roster. The Cavs traded forward Channing Frye and former Celtics star point guard Isaiah Thomas to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for guard Jordan Clarkson, forward Larry Nance Jr., and a first-round selection in the 2018 NBA Draft.

As of right now, Boston (40-17) is currently sitting behind the red-hot Toronto Raptors (39-16) in terms of winning percentage for the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
