With the 2019 NFL Draft coming up, there has been plenty of buzz surrounding Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa. However, it appears his brother and Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa managed to make headlines as well.

Bosa was entering the last guaranteed year of his rookie contract. According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Chargers have exercised his option for the 2020 NFL season:

Some non-Nick Bosa news this week: the Chargers have exercised the fifth-year option on DE Joey Bosa, per source.

The move hardly comes as any surprise. Bosa has established himself as one of the NFL's premier edge rushers. The chargers are doing what they can to ensure they have his services for as long as possible.

Bosa's career got off to a stellar start after he finished his rookie season with 10.5 sacks en route to Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He managed to follow it up with an even better sophomore season with 12.5 sacks and four forced fumbles while earning his first career trip to the Pro Bowl. Unfortunately, he was forced to miss nine games due to a foot injury last season and finished the 2018 campaign with 23 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Despite the injury, Bosa has still proven to be an integral part o this Chargers defense moving forward. Los Angeles made some tremendous strides last year before ultimately losing in the divisional round versus the New England Patriots.

Regardless, expectations are now higher than ever for them moving forward. Bosa will have a golden opportunity to solidify a lucrative payday this year.
