A Los Angeles Chargers player getting injured. What's new. Defensive end Melvin Ingram went down with what looked like a neck injury in the team's Thursday night showdown with the rival Oakland Raiders.

The Chargers are notoriously snakebitten when it comes to injuries. Ingram is a new (and hopefully short) addition to the list. Starting left tackle Russell Okung is dealing with a groin injury, while starting right tackle Sam Tevi is battling a knee injury.

Ingram could play a key role in this AFC West contest. The game is hotly contested, with neither side gaining a big advantage. Oakland quarterback Derek Carr has looked flustered in the pocket to this point, constantly feeling pressure that isn't there. Ingram and fellow pass-rusher Joey Bosa have an opportunity to take over the game for Los Angeles but haven't shown up to this point.

This game may seem like another game between two teams with middling records, but it's so much more. Both teams remain in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt. A win against another AFC wild card contender would be huge for either squad. If the Raiders win, they'll only be a half game out of the second wild card spot. The Chargers have a bit of a longer road, as they're just trying to get back to .500.
