Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is currently dealing with a neck injury that could keep him out of action for Thursday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ekeler aggravated a previous injury in the team's 26-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, which happened during the onside kick at the end of the game.

And with the injury seemingly more severe than it was previously, it sounds like Ekeler will be cautious when it comes to the decision of returning to the field against the Chiefs.

From ESPN's Chargers reporter Eric Williams:

Austin Ekeler says he has a bruised nerve in his neck that limits his mobility, putting his availability in serious question for Thursday. He dealt with a similar injury two weeks ago, but said this one is worse. “You can’t let your pride get in the way of it,” he said. “It’s football, yeah, but there’s a lot of life after football, too.”

Should Ekeler be sidelined, that will test the Chargers' run game even more due to the unknowns with star running back Melvin Gordon.

While it sounds like there is a chance that Gordon could play, Ekeler being out would still likely increase the role for rookie running back Justin Jackson.

Either way, this will be a very important game for the Chargers as they try to move to 11-3 on the season, which would tie the Chiefs atop of the AFC West.

After this week's game, Anthony Lynn's squad will finish up the regular season with matchups against the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos.
