The future is bright for the Chicago Bears as they have a handful of young stars on the roster. Furthermore, the defense is rather solid and the franchise is hopeful with Matt Eberflus leading the way. Although Chicago could lose some key players in free agency, the front office is bound to make a shocking move this year. For that reason, we take a look at a potential surprise Bears roster cut for the 2022 offseason.

Chicago needs to develop their young stars while continuing to build up the roster. We'll see how the front office handles the offseason, especially with a plethora of players in line for new contracts. When it comes to making roster cuts, the Bears are likely to make their decision on a player's cap situation, along with their past production.

The Bears will want to build around Justin Fields while maintaining most of their defense. However, Chicago could use an upgrade on the defensive line. Although that's a strong suit for this team, we could see a shocking release made in that position group.

With that said, here is our surprise Bears roster cut heading into the 2022 offseason.

Surprise Bears Roster Cut in 2022 Offseason

Eddie Goldman

Although he's been a reliable defender for the Bears, Eddie Goldman's time in Chicago could be coming to an end. He just had one of the worst seasons of his career after mustering an abysmal 22 total tackles and half of a sack. Goldman only participated in 14 games this year, but he had near career lows across the board.

That's not great, especially considering the Bears signed him to a deal in the 2021 offseason. Maybe the front office gives him a chance, but his lack of production speaks volumes. Luckily for Chicago, releasing Eddie Goldman only adds about $5 million to the dead cap. Although, it would result in the front office taking an $11.81 million cap hit in total.

So, financially it could be a problem, but it's not enough for the Bears to worry about. They have a plethora of expiring contracts this offseason and Chicago should be able to make the same deals without losing too much value. The financial aspect of releasing Eddie Goldman is what makes this a potentially surprising move for this franchise.

At the end of the day, Chicago has quite a bit to think about when it comes to improving the team. As previously mentioned, the Bears roster has young talent, but they need to maintain a good portion of the core. If the front office can manage that, this team should be able to play much better next year.

It'll be interesting to see how they approach free agency and the NFL Draft. If they opt to let Goldman go, we could see Chicago select his replacement in the draft. There is a ton of defensive talent entering the league this year and it could be a smart move for the Bears to take advantage of it.

Keep an eye on Eddie Goldman and the Bears, as his status with the team could be up in the air throughout the offseason. It all depends on how Chicago wants to handle the 2022 offseason.
