In the week leading up to the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's son, Britt Reid, caused a car crash that involved a 5-year-old girl, Ariel Young. Nearly a month since the incident, it has been revealed that the girl has sadly suffered permanent brain injuries.

Young was in critical condition from the crash, putting her in a coma for days. Even though she's now awake, she has permanent injuries to her brain, per Tom Porto, who is the attorney representing the family involved in the awful incident.

Porto revealed this news on “Good Morning America” Tuesday:

“She’s awake, which is a huge development,” Porto said of Ariel, via ProFootballTalk. “She likely has permanent brain damage that she will endure for the rest of her life. She’s not walking — it’s a sad, sad, sad story.”

It was discovered that Britt was drinking before he got behind the wheel, which led to the accident taking place. Since the accident happened, the Chiefs have parted ways with Britt as more details on the crash continue to come to light. With what Britt has put the little girl and her family through, Porto shared that they are going to pursue serious charges on Britt:

“We’re going to be advocating for the most serious charges and the most serious sentence that Britt Reid could receive,” Porto said.

Britt has had issues with alcoholism in his life and obviously needs to get help on his issues. He already had a previous drunk driving conviction on his record.

At the same time, it's sad to hear that this innocent girl won't be able to have a normal life because of what happened. A GoFundMe for Young has raised over $500,000 at this time, but all the money in the world won't make up for this.
