Chiefs coach Andy Reid reveals injury update on Patrick Mahomes, 2 key defenders

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs, Andy Reid

As if a blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans was not enough headache for the Kansas City Chiefs, the team also lost quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the fourth quarter after he was hit in the head. Fortunately, though, head coach Andy Reid gave an update on his injury and noted that Mahomes has been cleared of the concussion protocol.

The Chiefs, however, also suffered other injuries as Chris Jones sustained a groin strain while Tyrann Mathieu got a rib injury in the Week 7 showdown. Jones was returning for the first time since Week 4 after recovering from a wrist injury.

Mahomes got kneed in the head after a Titans defender caught his right foot. As he was falling, another Tennessee player was coming at him, which resulted to the knee hit.

Patrick Mahomes exited the game after that and didn’t return. Andy Reid replaced him with Chad Henne, though it didn’t really matter as the Titans went away with a 27-3 win over the Chiefs.

The star quarterback, for his part, also eased concerns about his condition when he spoke to the media in his postgame presser. He said he’s fine now and should be able to suit up in Week 8 when they play the New York Giants.

“Y’all saw the hit. I took my time getting up, but I felt fine. I did everything I needed to do to be here,” Mahomes said of the hit, per The Athletic.

The Chiefs have now fallen 3-4 on the season, and they certainly can’t afford any injury to the team in their bid to get back to contention.
