The Kansas City Chiefs hit the jackpot when they selected Clyde Edwards-Helaire 32nd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, he's been riddled with injuries the past three years, and the team hasn't been able to capitalize on the payout just yet.

Fortunately, Edwards-Helaire is healthier than ever entering his third year in the league. With a full, in-person offseason, this year is his best chance to prove himself.

According to the running back, Andy Reid has him focused on the basics.

“This offseason, it was pretty much getting back to the basics, being able to have a full offseason,” Edwards-Helaire said (per The Athletic). “That was one of the things Coach (Andy) Reid and I talked about. He said, ‘This is really your first real offseason in the NFL.’ Really, health was the biggest thing.”

It's true, this is technically Edwards-Helaire's first full NFL offseason. In his rookie year, the Chiefs held virtual meetings instead of in-person ones for a large part of offseason preparation. In his second year, Edwards-Helaire underwent gallbladder surgery to start the offseason.

Along with not having adequate offseason training, the young running back hasn't been able to play a full NFL season yet. He has dealt with seemingly countless injuries from an MCL sprain to a collarbone injury.

Oddly enough, Edwards-Helaire rarely struggled with injuries during his time at LSU.

“There’s always a sense of urgency for me. I feel I bring that intensity. I never really was injured in college. It’s just one of those things,” he said.

With a full offseason under his belt, Edwards-Helaire should be in peak condition for the Chiefs come Week 1.
