The wait for Shea Patterson to sign an undrafted free agent contract with an NFL team is finally over. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Patterson is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the months leading up to the draft, Patterson was projected to be a late-round pick or go undrafted. Unfortunately for the former Michigan quarterback, it was the latter, as he wasn't selected in the 255 allotted picks.

Nevertheless, Patterson is going to get a chance to prove himself with the reigning Super Bowl champions. Of course, Patrick Mahomes is the franchise quarterback as long as he wants to be. Behind him, Kansas City's quarterback room features Chad Henne and Jordan Ta'amu.

Therefore, it's going to be an uphill climb for the 23-year-old to even make the Chiefs' roster. At the least, he is no longer unsigned, giving him an opportunity to make a name for himself in the NFL.

After transferring from Ole Miss, Patterson would play two years at Michigan to conclude his collegiate career. Over the course of the two seasons at Michigan, Patterson completed just 60.1 of his attempts for 5,661 yards and 45 touchdowns.

Despite his rough showing in 2019, Patterson was invited to the NFL Combine. By signing an undrafted free agent contract with the Chiefs, Patterson is the final player to be invited to the NFL Combine to sign with a team. Altogether, there were a total of 357 prospects that were invited to Indianapolis.

Shortly after the draft ended, Patterson witnessed dozens of undrafted players sign deals with teams. Even though he had to wait a bit longer, the former Michigan QB can officially say he's made it to the NFL.
