The Kansas City Chiefs are enjoying a dominant season as they took down the Houston Texans in fairly dominant fashion. The team put on a masterclass of a performance that saw them overwhelm a Texans team that is respectable in its own right.

However, this achievement of the Chiefs brings on something more than just a ticket to the AFC Championship Game. This is the first time in the team's history that they have been able to accomplish this feat in consecutive seasons.

The Chiefs have reached the Super Bowl twice, winning it once. However, that happened before the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. They have since struggled to make it back to the Promised Land since then, only making the conference final once from 1970 until 2017.

Things have changed since Patrick Mahomes took over as QB, though. In his first full year as starting pass-caller, the Chiefs have reached the conference playoffs. The New England Patriots managed to stop them from reaching the Super Bowl, though.

This year, there's no Tom Brady in his way. The team's performance against the Texans is also pretty encouraging. Mahomes was extremely effective from the pocket, throwing for 321 passing yards and five touchdowns. Travis Kelce was especially effective with three touchdown receptions, but players like Sammy Watkins, Frank Clark, and Rashad Fenton were also key for the victory.

They will be in for a tough challenge in the AFC Championship Game as they prepare to face the Titans, though. Ryan Tannehill and company have proven themselves to be very effective stoppers of big teams, and Derrick Henry is yet to be stopped in this year's playoffs.

This makes for an exciting AFC Championship as no one has any idea on which team will walk away with the win. Chiefs fans hope that their team will reach their first Super Bowl since 1969, though.
