Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not letting the coronavirus pandemic impact his physique, despite the absence of conventional training and lifting methods.

Mahomes said he has remained in good physical shape during the offseason, orchestrating workouts with teammates in preparation for training camp (via Nate Taylor of The Athletic):

“I feel like I’ve been staying in pretty great shape,” Mahomes said Wednesday in a Zoom video conference with reporters. “I’ve been throwing with guys, I’ve been working out with guys and doing whatever I can to stay ready, knowing we’re missing these OTAs and minicamps. I’m excited to get back with those guys and get back working and being ready as soon as possible. The season will come quick.”

Indeed, the Super Bowl MVP has been throwing quite a bit this offseason, including getting some reps in during a recent workout with tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Gehrig Dieter.

The pandemic has started to catch up with the league year, though the NFL is still hoping to begin play in September. There have been discussions about a shorter preseason in order to mitigate potential scheduling issues. Regardless, Mahomes is staying ready.

Mahomes might not have been the world-beater he was during his MVP season in 2018, but he continued to shine on the brightest stages.

The 24-year-old went 11-3 in 14 starts, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns against just five interceptions. Mahomes also led the Chiefs to consecutive come-from-behind victories against the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans, respectively, in the playoffs.

Mahomes and the Chiefs achieved the ultimate goal in 2019. But the superstar signal-caller is intent on building a dynasty in Kansas City.
