Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu is from New Orleans so it seems it would make sense for him at some point to play for his hometown team but this offseason he didn't even get a call from the Saints.

Mathieu said that he and coach Sean Payton have a really good relationship and he uses their facilities for his camp every year but at no point has the talks ever progressed to business, rather just staying on a personal level.

“No, it’s funny,” Mathieu told WWL Radio via 24/7 Sports. “Me and Sean Payton have a great relationship. I use their building every year for my camp, but I’ve never had a conversation with Sean Payton about the business side of things. He’s been a great supporter of mine, but no I have not.”

This seems to be the same as last season when Mathieu joked the only person from the Saints to contact him was Michael Thomas. Mathieu said a three-year, $42 million deal with the Chiefs this offseason and maybe the reason for the Saints not contacting him had to do strictly with money.

This feels like a story that could see Mathieu come back to New Orleans near the end of his career when his salary is cheaper but he can still offer a lot to help the team.

The Chiefs hope that he can build on what he has already accomplished so far in his 82 games played and shore up a Chiefs secondary that was spotty at best at times last season.
