Chris Hemsworth is currently in negotiations to star in a planned Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie from Paramount Pictures, Deadline exclusively reported.

There was already a hint of this crossover happening in Steven Caple Jr.'s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts's epilogue last year, Anthony Ramos' character ends up getting invited to join the secret military organization G.I. Joe, which saw the revival of the film franchise as it earned $439 million. In the 1980s, characters from both G.I. Joe and Transformers intermingled in a Marvel comic book. Combined together, both properties' movies have a lifetime gross of $6 billion.

Michael Bay, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom De Santo and Mark Vahradian are set to produce. Hasbro Entertainment and Steven Spielberg will serve as executive producers.

Hemsworth is currently promoting George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga as the warlord Dementus. He's also currently in talks to reunite with his “friend from work” Mark Ruffalo in the upcoming film Crime 101. The actor is also rumored to star in the as-yet untitled biopic about the legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan.

G.I. Joe and the Transformers is a four-issue limited series of comic books was published in 1987 written by Michael Higgins. The story followed the G.I. Joe Team and the Autobots joining forces in order to stop Cobra and the Decepticons from destroying the world. In the comic, the G.I. Joe forces destroy Bumblebee and is rebuilt as Goldbug.

Cobra agents and the Decepticons teamed up to steal Power Station Alpha, a mobile nuclear power plant which is able to beam energy across the planet. That is until Cobra agents find out that Shockwave actually wanted the power plant to destroy Earth.

When the series was published, both Optimus Prime and Megatron were killed in their main comic titles with hardy any explanation which made the story disjointed. Meanwhile, in the G.I. Joe series, Cobra Commander was believed to have been killed, alongside Destro, and then replaced by Serpentor.
