Christian Eriksen has been training with his boyhood club in Denmark and most recently, Ajax, who he starred for prior to making the move to Tottenham in 2013. The 29-year-old is currently in the Netherlands and just received his COVID-19 vaccination. He'll travel to London later this week.
Eriksen shockingly collapsed in the middle of a match at Euro 2020 against Finland and had to be resuscitated. It was an extremely scary moment as the entire footballing community prayed for him. Thankfully, he's recovered well and is ready to take the pitch again.
Article Continues BelowThe ex-Spurs playmaker has a unique connection to Brentford boss Thomas Frank as well, who is Danish. He coached Christian Eriksen in their homeland when he was 16-years-old.
This is what Frank had to say about the signing. Via The Athletic:
“I am looking forward to working with Christian Eriksen again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then. Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.
“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world class player to Brentford. He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own. He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.”
Christian Eriksen is hoping to solidify a spot in Denmark's World Cup squad ahead of Qatar 2022. They finished at the top of their group in qualifying with an impressive 9-0-1 record.
We can't wait to see the Dane back in the Premier League threading passes.
