Cincinnati Bengals Week 8 Predictions

4. Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow will throw a first-half interception

The Bengals are stepping into a situation they haven't faced with this particular roster and this particular quarterback. This is Joe Burrow's entrance into the cauldron of elevated expectations. After Cincinnati's rout of the Baltimore Ravens, the Burrow Boys are now expected to make the playoffs and contend for the AFC North title. They no longer have nothing to lose.

Yes, the New York Jets aren't very good, but the Jets are also playing with pride in Week 8. They just got humiliated by the New England Patriots. They were completely undressed and embarrassed. Even the worst NFL teams don't want to be embarrassed unless they want their head coach fired. New York players don't dislike Robert Saleh. They want to play well for him but simply aren't very talented.

We saw the winless Detroit Lions put up a strong fight at the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend. Detroit played extremely hard and made the Rams sweat for nearly all 60 minutes. The Jets are likely to give the Bengals a good fight, at least for two and a half quarters. Burrow is a brilliant quarterback, but this game figures to have a bumpy flight on this particular Jet, at least at the start. New York will come out aggressive on defense. It will probably lead to a Burrow pick in the first half, as the young Bengals realize they can't just show up and win.

3. Burrow will respond to the first-half pick with 3 second-half TD passes

The great ones bounce back from mistakes and learn from their failures. Joe Burrow looks like a great quarterback in the making. Ja'Marr Chase has made life so much easier for him, and Bengals coach Zac Taylor — who looked in over his head for portions of his first two seasons — is suddenly a much better and smarter coach now that he has a game-changing receiver to pair with his game-changing quarterback. Funny how that works.

Burrow will make a few mistakes in the first half but will roar in the second half. His competitive chops are already very noticeable. He is not going to let this game slip away for the Bengals in Week 8.

2. Bengals defense will gain three takeaways against the brutal Jets offense

The Jets are likely to start Mike White, barring a late plot twist. Joe Flacco does not appear to be ready to make the start after being re-acquired by New York from the Philadelphia Eagles for a second go-round with the AFC East team.

The most famous Mike White was a Big Ten champion head coach at Illinois in 1983. This Mike White looked painfully bad in the Jets' blowout loss to the Patriots. He simply isn't up to the job of being an NFL starting quarterback. The Bengals should be able to feast on the Jets when New York has the ball. This limits the underdog's upside and its upset potential.

1. Cincinnati Bengals will beat the New York Jets in Week 8

While it won't be pretty, the Bengals will shrug off a sluggish first quarter and find their footing just before halftime. They will loosen up after halftime and tee off on Mike White. The Jets will play solid defense, but they have nowhere to hide on offense.

Bengals 27, Jets 9, in Week 8.
